Police and an ambulance crew were called to the scene outside Stourbridge police station shortly before 12.30pm. The man suffered serious head injuries and he was airlifted to hospital.

Traffic restrictions were put in place while investigations were carried out at the scene, causing some delays for drivers.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford joined land crews as they treated the injured man.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Police officers were already on scene providing first aid treatment to the man following the collision.

"Upon assessment by ambulance staff, it became clear that the man had sustained a serious head injury. The team worked quickly to provide trauma care before he was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to the helicopter which had landed on a nearby rugby pitch. The man was then airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and was said to be in a critical condition on arrival in A&E.”
