New Bishop of Dudley officially unveiled

The new Bishop of Dudley has been officially announced at a special mayoral reception.

The announcement was made by the Bishop of Worcester Dr John Inge at the offices of the Mayor of Dudley Councillor David Stanley who introduced Archdeacon Martin Gorick as the new Bishop of Dudley.

Archdeacon Martin, who is currently serving as the Archdeacon of Oxford and Residentiary Canon at Christ Church College and Cathedral, takes over the position from Rt Revd Graham Usher, who has been appointed Bishop of Norwich.

Archdeacon Martin has served in the Church of England since his ordination in 1987, with his links to the Black Country going back to serving as Vicar of Smethwick Old Church and Area Dean for the Black Country Deanery of Warley between 1994 and 2001.

He will be consecrated as a Bishop on Tuesday, January 28 and will be officially welcomed into his new role in the Diocese of Worcester with events in Worcester and Dudley in February.
