'This passenger's plans went up in smoke' – Police show shocking attempt at customs cigarette haul

A Birmingham Airport passenger's plans went up in smoke when police intervened on the amount of cigarettes they were attempting to get through customs.

Officers asked their social media followers: "How many cigarettes over the allowed 200 this passenger attempted to get through customs!?"

"This passengers plans went up in smoke!"

Air passengers are only allowed to to take 200 cigarettes through customs, police said.

Social media users took to Twitter to comment on the photo.

Graham Moss said: "There's no way all that came from one passenger."

Paul Drinkwater added: "Blimey! Couldn't put that many up his jumper. Ryanair would have made a fortune out of his carry on baggage."
