The centre is set to open its gyms, group exercise classes, and racket sports tomorrow, while the pool will be open again on August 1 for lane swimming, family swim sessions and Aqua-aerobics. The Learn to Swim programme will begin again in September.

New signs has been placed around the site, kit has been spaced in the gyms and class sizes are smaller. New contactless systems are in place for entering the facilities and all payments will be cashless.

Rachel Harvey, for Inspiring healthy lifestyles, which manages leisure centres across the district on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council, said: "Preparations have gone really well, we were all ready to go when we got the go ahead.

"We're really excited to reopen, we've done a lot of training to make sure the staff are fully prepared and comfortable.

"They've had mental health training as well as coronavirus training to make sure they can support people too."

Rugeley Leisure Centre will open on August 1 but the pool will remain closed for a while longer as repairs are made following faults that were identified during the closure. Rugeley Leisure Centre members can use the pool at Chase Leisure Centre.

Rugeley will open in the second phase to allow time to test and embed the new secure operating practice.

A new booking system has been put in place for gyms, swimming, racket sports and classes as booking a time slot is now necessary to ensure a limited number of people in each building at a time.

Over the next few weeks Inspiring healthy lifestyles will be releasing videos with information on the new booking systems and layout of the building on their social media pages. Members are being urged to register now for the new online booking system at inspiredbookings.org.
