Man jailed for role in Walsall street fight as part of ongoing feud between families

A man has been jailed for eight months for his role in a violent street fight blamed on feuding between two families.

However, due to spending six months in custody on remand followed by a two-year tag curfew Shafqat Hussain was not required to serve any further time in prison.

Hussain, 47, initially denied offences of violent disorder and affray in Walsall between April 4 and 12, in 2021. He was due to stand trial alongside four other men at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday but changed his pleas to guilty ahead of the case being opened in front of the jury.

This case relates to an incident where intended prosecution witness Shafiq Ur Rehman was the victim of an attack in Lewis Street, in the Birchills area of the town.
