It comes after the latest incident in the area, which saw a 22-year-old man taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries in Bloxwich on Tuesday.

At the weekend West Midlands Police said that they were permanently basing more officers in parts of Walsall following several stabbings.

Some residents have now likened parts of the town to a "war zone," claiming the violence is forcing them to stay indoors out of fear of "being caught in the crossfire."

Lisa, a Walsall resident, is one of those people. She said: "It's getting worse, just the other day there was another stabbing. I wouldn't say I'm a hermit, but I refuse to leave the house because of how dangerous it is getting out there now.

"It was never this bad, you can't go a week now without hearing of another stabbing or shooting or fight. Just the other week there was a kid out in the street carrying a gun like it was nothing. It's insane."

After the most recent attack, police were granted section 60 powers in Bloxwich - these give officers the power to stop and search people without reasonable suspicion.
