Pc Steve Lovering was hit by a Seat Leon on Ashes Road, in Oldbury, in August last year.

The constable spotted the car, which he believed to have been stolen, and pulled up alongside the driver, Callum Fellows, after recognising him as someone who was suspected to be involved in car crime.

Fellows, 18, reversed and deliberately drove into Pc Lovering's BMW motorbike – sending him sprawling into the road, before he sped off on the wrong side of the road and through red traffic lights.

West Midlands Police later released a video showing the moment Pc Lovering was hit by the Seat Leon.

Several concerned passers-by approached the officer to make sure he was not hurt and help him get his bike upright.

The Seat Leon, which was on false plates, was thought to have been stolen from a car key burglary. But police are still yet to recover the vehicle.

Fellows, of Mervin Road, in Wolverhampton, was later picked out in an ID parade.

He later admitted assault, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

At Wolverhampton Crown Court on January 22, he was jailed for three years.

Detective Sergeant Chris Jones, from our force CID, said: “Fellow’s actions were completely reckless and it’s lucky that Pc Lovering did not sustain serious injuries.

“Despite having some back and shoulder pain, nothing was broken and Pc Lovering was ok.

“Fellows’ behaviour was dangerous and completely unacceptable."
