Police are looking to trace this silver Astra believed to have been involved in the crash

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of hitting the victim in Hurst Lane, in the Shard End area of Birmingham, on Monday.

He was carried for around 20 metres on the bonnet of the Vauxhall Astra, before falling under the car's wheels.

The 22-year-old suffered fractures to his pelvis, shoulder and back and remains in hospital today.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after the 6pm collision and on Tuesday night charged him with attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

The teenager also faces one count of breaching a harassment restraining order after it is claimed he phoned his ex-girlfriend shortly before the incident.

The 17-year-old – originally from Stechford – is due to appear in Birmingham Magistrates Court today.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are still appealing for witnesses and information on the whereabouts of the silver Vauxhall Astra understood to have been involved.

"The car is believed to have suffered damage including a smashed windscreen, front end damage and is missing a wing mirror. If any garage owners have received a silver Astra with such damage for repair we want to hear from them.

"We understand there were a number of other vehicles and pedestrians around at the time and we are appealing for those people to come forward."

Anyone with information, or CCTV or dash cam footage of the crash, is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 20BE/170127D/20.
