Suspected slave found at Brownhills drugs farm

A suspected slavery victim was rescued as police raided a drugs farm.

Police swooped on a property above the former shop on High Street, Brownhills, at around 3pm on Saturday.

A Vietnamese man was taken away from the property along with 88 cannabis plants which were seized.

A witness to the raid, who did not wish to be named, said the property searched was above the former YRS Wines and Beers which has been closed for seven years.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police seized 88 cannabis plants after discovering a drugs factory at a property in High Street, Brownhills, at just before 3pm on Saturday.

"A man of Vietnamese origin who was found at the property has been safeguarded as a suspected modern slavery victim.

"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with information can call police on 101."
