Mrs Lander, aged 26, was found with head injuries by police, while the body of her dead husband Paul, 30, was in another room.

He died of asphyxiation and is believed to have hanged himself.

A post mortem on Mrs Lander was inconclusive and more tests are being carried out to establish how she died.

Officers said they suspect company director Paul Lander ‘violently attacked’ his wife before killing himself at the semi-detached house.

The alarm was raised at Pel Crescent – a residential cul-de-sac in Oldbury – at about 2pm on Saturday.

Today, Rikki’s mother said: "Rikki was the perfect daughter and my best friend.

"She could light up a room with her infectious smile. She loved to dance and sing. We are lost for words."

West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Jim Munro said: "We can now confirm we are treating this as a murder/suicide investigation.

"As we have previously stated we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this inquiry and our role is to now establish the facts of what happened in the time leading up to their deaths.

Speaking earlier this week, he said: “This is a truly tragic incident.

“It’s understood the woman was violently attacked before the offender took his own life.

“The timeline of exactly what happened is unclear but we believe the two people died during the morning.”
