The Arthur Price factory shop in Lichfield, which sells some of the finest tableware in the world, celebrates its reopening by slashing nearly £20,000 off the price of a sterling silver cutlery canteen.

The set, which includes a full complement of fish blades, table and dessert knives and forks, as well as a variety of different spoons, has been reduced from its normal retail price of £24,995 for one lucky customer.

Hand-crafted in Sheffield, the glittering array of implements features a pattern originating from the mid 18th century, and features a full set of cutlery for 12 people.

Chief executive Simon Price said he couldn't wait for the shop to reopen.

"After the dark, harsh months of lockdown the team is bursting to see people," he said.

The cutlery set's price has been cut by £20,000

“It will be so good to be back together again. We are thankful to all the local people who have purchased from us over the last year. Supporting independent shops is important for the local economy but it also shows great community spirit and I ask everyone to keep shopping local for whatever they need, keep our independent shops’ tills ringing.

Simon's son James, who is the fifth generation of the Price family to be involved with the business, said online sales had been buoyant throughout the pandemic, despite the lockdowns.

"However, nothing beats seeing people in the shop, it just lifts people’s spirits and we can’t wait to see people," he said.

He said there would be a range of offers across sterling silver, silver plate and stainless steel canteens of cutlery while stocks lasted, as well as on glassware and bespoke silverware.

Founded by Simon's great-grandfather in Birmingham in 1902, the company supplied the cutlery that was used on the ill-fated liner the Titanic.

It also supplied Concorde and the Beckhams, and has manufacturing plants in Birmingham and Sheffield.
