Travellers camp up at Darlaston park

Travellers have set up camp on a Darlaston community park, sparking fears that residents will avoid the facility.

The travellers arrived at Kings Hill Park, Forge Street, on Saturday morning, with more arriving throughout the day and Sunday.

Local councillor Paul Bott, who is chairman of the Friends of Kings Hill Park group, said: "I think it is completely disgraceful that we have to put up with this.

"They have broken a lock on the gates of the park to get in, but it seems they are outside of the law, I can't imagine they will be punished for that.

"People have avoided the park all weekend and will continue to do so, they are completely intimidated by these people.

"There needs to be a borough wide change in how we deal with travellers.

"It is the same thing every time and we as a community are the ones who are always having to pay for clean ups or suffer anti social behaviour."
