Fire crews were called to the blaze at AA Domestic Appliances' storage unit in Banners Street just after 6pm last night.

The fire involved several washing machines and a fridge, but left the whole unit, measuring 65 ft by 200 ft, severely smoke damaged.

Fire crews, which stepped in during a 24-hour strike action by West Midlands Fire Service, stayed at the scene until 10pm.

Company secretary Diane Hill said the company's shop in Halesowen town centre was still open.
