A major investigation is now under way after the dismembered man was discovered in the waterway at Park Village.

Police have spent days trawling the canal for remains after a passer-by reported seeing a body in the water near the Waggon & Horses pub, Cannock Road, on Sunday evening.

A number of body parts have now been recovered.

This afternoon, Det Insp Mark Payne, of Wednesfield CID, said: "We believe the remains are those of a man aged between late teens and 30s.

"Our inquiries to date indicate they could have been at the location for between two to eight months."

He added: "We can confirm that the skeleton is not intact."
