Radzi, who grew up in Wolverhampton, was helping his mother, Councillor Barbara McGarrity and former mayoress Asha Mattu, at the weekend to deliver food parcels across the city.

Asha, who is part of the Elias Mattu Foundation – a charity set up after her husband and the former mayor Elias died – said it was "great to see the support".

She said: "Great support from Cllr Barbara McGarrity and her son Radzi Chinyanganya, Blue Peter presenter. A nice surprise seeing him doing food parcels deliveries for elderly and vulnerable people on Saturday."

Residents were also appreciative of the group's efforts.

Local Mak Singh said: "A huge shout and a big thank you to the Elias Mattu Foundation for the food parcels. The residents of Springvale are so grateful. Keep it up – it is being appreciated."
