The council is currently in the process of drafting a long-term action plan to ensure all its open spaces meet the needs and requirements of residents, and is appealing for people to take part in an online survey.

In particular, its questionnaire will focus on all aspects of formal parks and recreation grounds, play areas with equipment, smaller informal green spaces and natural areas such as woodland, meadows and nature reserves.

Councillor Stephen Simkins, the council’s acting leader and cabinet member for city economy, said: “I’d like to encourage residents to take a few minutes to complete this important survey. Our fabulous open spaces and play areas provide great places for leisure, fun and enjoyment as well as offering many wellbeing and health benefits.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, the city’s green pockets became particularly important, and it might be that people have changed the way they view and use our open spaces as a result.

“By completing the survey, people will be able to share with us why these areas matter, what they would like to see in the future and help us to make sure we provide places that are inclusive to all communities.

“We’d like to receive feedback to help us develop and offer open spaces and play areas that meet different geographical, social and health needs, as well as identifying the best ways to help us work towards meeting the challenges of climate change,” he added.

The survey, which takes around 10 minutes to complete, can be found on the council’s website at https://consultation.wolverhampton.gov.uk/insight-performance/wolverhampton-open-space-strategy-and-action-plan/
