The Birmingham-based show, featuring scenes shot in the Black Country, has been nominated for Best Drama Series at the Royal Television Society Awards.

Starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby anf Helen McCrory as Aunt Poll, the series will be up against the likes of Killing Eve and Save Me for the accolade.

The BBC picked up 47 nominations out of a total of 81.

BBC director of content Charlotte Moore said: "We're very proud to have BBC programmes represented in over half of the nominations for this year's awards.

"Whatever the pressures in the market to specialise, the BBC remains committed to commissioning programmes across all genres and for all audiences - and it's great to see that recognised in today's announcement."

The Royal Television Society Programme Awards take place in London on March 19.

Earlier this week Peaky Blinders fans were treated to a brand new image of Helen McCrory to promote the eagerly-anticipated fifth series.

Thousands of people have shared the image across Facebook and Twitter as fans get excited for the new season.

The cast and crew, including Cillian Murphy, returned to the Black Country Living Museum to film the new series last November.

Hollywood A-lister Murphy was joined by Paul Anderson and Helen McCrory at the Dudley attraction, which was once again been transformed into a historical set for the show.

The actors were decked out in their signature smart suits and newsboy caps as they chatted with cast and crew and shot scenes for the eagerly anticipated new series.

Peaky Blinders will be back on our screens in the spring.
