Slick moves and dazzling outfits left skating fans in awe as Dancing on Ice returned to Birmingham's NIA.

Eight stars including newly-crowned Dancing on Ice champion Matthew Wolfenden, runners-up Jorgie Porter and Chico, and actress Jennifer Ellison pulled on their skates to impress the crowd.

Also keen to show off their moves were Olympic duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who received a standing ovation each time they took to the ice.

Each of the celebrities, which also included Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott, Coronation Street actor Andy Whyment, 2011 Dancing on Ice champion Sam Attwater and Sugababe Heidi Range, competed against one another in front of the live audience.

It was up to the panel of judges to rate each routine and often the celebrity skaters were given high praise for their efforts.

Larger-than-life TV personality Christopher Biggins was the star judge, joking with the skaters and playing up to the crowd.

Then it was up to the audience to text in their favourite celebrity skater. Chico, who raised a few eyebrows in a pair of skin-tight zebra print trousers was among the top acts but it was Emmerdale hunk Matthew who came out the overall winner after performing a near perfect Bolero.

Several slick routines by the professional skaters just after the interval proved to be crowd pleasers, with one skater dancing with fire.

The show continues until tomorrow (Sunday, April 29).
