This stunning piece of engineering will help superhero Batman make a quick get away from Birmingham later this year, when he hits the road as part of the Batman Live tour.

A man in costume, playing Batman, watched admiringly as the Batmobile to be used in the Batman Live show was unveiled in London.

The multi-million pound, custom design by Formula 1 legend Gordon Murray was revealed ahead of the production's opening.

Batman Live will visit a number of venues later this year, including Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Nottingham, Dublin and Belfast.

The show will be at the NIA in Birmingham from 17 - 21 August 17-21, 2011. Tickets cost £20-£35 plus booking and transaction fees.

Batman is taking to the road for the first time in DC Comics' history and fans will be able to see the superhero as he's never been seen before in an all-new, live-action arena adventure.

The show is set to take the world by storm and will premiere in the UK. Promoters have described it as "a multi-million pound stage production of unprecedented scale and a must-see for families and Batman fans everywhere".

A spokesman said: "Batman Live is based on an original story being created exclusively for the show. It is a theatrical extravaganza of thrilling stunts, acrobatic acts and illusions. Never before has Gotham City, Wayne Manor, the Batcave and Arkham Asylum been brought to life on stage in a more visually exciting way."
