Wolves match-winner Dave Edwards today predicted the stunning victory over Manchester City could kick-start their season.

And the Molineux midfielder set his sights on a Manchester double as Mick McCarthy's celebrated their defeat of City and began counting down to the trip to United.

Edwards hit the winner as Wolves ended their 11-week wait for a Premier League win by defeating big-spending City 2-1.

And the midfield man said: "We all hope this can kick-start our season.

"We got a good performance on Tuesday against Manchester United in the Carling Cup and that showed to us that we can go there on Saturday and get a result. The boys are very confident that we can get something.

"Saturday was a massive relief and three massive points for us.

"If we had lost we would have gone to Old Trafford really cut adrift at the bottom so it was nice to get three points.

"It's nice to get some points to match the performances because in the last three or four games we have played well and not picked up the results."

Wolves head for Old Trafford on Saturday looking to equal or better rivals Albion's draw at United — one of several shock results for the Premier League's lesser lights against the division's bigger clubs this season.

And Edwards said: "I think they are more beatable this season than any other season because of the intensity of their fixture list.

"The lower teams are really closing the gap on how good they are.

"In the past you had the bottom three or four teams who would never get a result against a big team. But I think the Premier League is now getting a bit closer and that is good for us."

In-form winger Matt Jarvis again had an influential role in Saturday's win and Edwards has joined the calls for his team-mate to receive an England call-up.

"He has got to be very close now," said Edwards.

"For me he is the best winger in the league at the moment."
