Dudley Sports boss Tony Gore wants more good than bad

Dudley Sports boss Tony Gore is hoping his side will be more Jekyll than Hyde as they bid to secure their West Midlands League Premier Division survival.

Gore has seen the good and bad elements of his side in recent weeks following a series of mixed results.

A 2-0 success over Wellington was followed by defeat at home to Shawbury and that pattern continued this week with last Saturday’s impressive draw at leaders Tividale then backed up by a 1-0 home reverse at the hands of Bewdley in midweek.

“We are still trying to find some consistency,” said Gore. “We had a good result at Wellington then lost to Shawbury, and then we picked up a great draw at Tividale but followed it up by losing at home to Bewdley.

“We will see what team turns up tomorrow!

“I am a bit hard on them at times but if we can do it at Tividale, then we should be able to turn it on at home to Shawbury.”

Gore was left frustrated by the midweek reverse but admitted his side lacked a cutting edge.

“It was a tight game in midweek and a flukish goal won it for them,” he said. “But we didn’t do enough in the final third and we were punished for it.”

Sports’ form has improved since the turn of the year and Gore feels four points from their remaining five games would probably see them safe.

“There are a few sides near the bottom still looking over their shoulder,” he said.

“It makes for an exciting finish to the season but I would rather be sitting comfortable in mid-table with nothing to play for.

“We have been in the bottom three this season but to be fair, we have not been too bad over the last 10 games or so. We have collected a good amount of points.

“We have got a bit of a cushion and I would think four points from our remaining games will see us safe. But there is still a lot of football to be played.”

And Gore hasn’t ruled out a late move into the transfer market before

“I am trying to get a couple of players in and we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Wolves Casuals can move to with three points of leaders Tividale with victory at Dudley Town tomorrow.

Fifth-placed Wednesfield host Hereford Lads Club while Smethwick welcome Black Country Rangers. Cradley and Bilston are on their travels to Shifnal and Wellington respectively.
