The 25-year-old has been a mainstay in the starting XI this season, making 36 appearances in total so far in all competitions.

After returning to the club from a loan spell at Grasshoppers and being overlooked by previous managers, Toti is pleased to finally have his chance under O’Neil.

“I’ve been enjoying playing and trying to help the team,” he told the Express & Star.

“It’s important for every player to have minutes, so you can show yourself on the pitch.

“I’ve been giving everything in every match.

“It’s important for every player to have a manager that trusts you and puts you on the pitch.

“I’ve been enjoying it and I’m grateful for the opportunity. I’ve been grabbing the opportunity.

“I’ve been doing the same, since always, I’ve been working hard and it’s just about the moment.

“Before I was playing, there were some other players and I had to respect the timing.

“Now, I’m playing and it’s good for me. I’m happy.”

Having made his Wolves debut in January 2022, Toti went on to make his senior Portugal debut in November 2023.

He now looks set to make the squad for the Euros, capping off a remarkable rise in his career.

“A lot has happened and I’ve been improving a lot,” he added.

“I have big goals now for the national team and I want to keep improving because there’s still a lot of work to do.”

Toti started again at the weekend as Wolves earned a point at Nottingham Forest with a Matheus Cunha double.

After going 1-0 up and finding themselves 2-1 down, Toti praised Wolves’ resilience to fight back and earn a point.

“It was a fair point,” Toti said.

“We took one point, we wanted three, but we saw it was a tough game.

“We’ll take the point and we’re happy, but we think we could have done more for sure.

“It’s not easy losing the game and we had to come again.

“But we showed character, we just needed a little bit more to get the win.

“We’ll take the point and go onto the next one at home.”
