Wolves' season ranks among worst in club's history for goals scored

Should Wolves draw a blank at Arsenal on Sunday, they will not only record their lowest ever Premier League total of goals scored, it would also rank as the second worst goalscoring league season in their history.

Currently sat on a miserly 31 goals from 37 Premier League matches, the Molineux men are bottom of the charts for finding the net in the top flight this season. That’s just 0.86 goals per game so far. Indeed, their goals-scored column is the equal worst in league football this term – with only lowly Forest Green Rovers scoring the same number in a miserable season which saw them relegated from League One.

And should Wolves fail to find the net at the Emirates, this term would rank as their lowest Premier League goals total. Wolves are currently one behind the 32 scored in the Premier League 2009-10 season, when they finished in 15th place. That season was level with Wolves’ total in the old First Division in 1981-82, when they were relegated in second-bottom position after scoring 32 goals, albeit that was from a 42-game season.

However, the current season is still some way better than Wolves’ worst goalscoring season, which came back in 1983-84 (not including the 1939-40 season, which was abandoned due to the outbreak of the Second World War).
