England World Cup fever hits Wolves squad

World Cup fever has gripped the nation – and out in Switzerland it's no different for the Englishmen in Wolves' ranks.

The players watched most of Saturday's 2-0 win over Sweden that saw England progress to the semi-finals for the first time since 1990, before Wolves took on Xamax in a warm-up match on Saturday evening.

And it appears there's been no little rivalry between the English and Portuguese players in Wolves squad, with Portugal having of course exited in the last 16.

Morgan Gibbs-White knows what it's like to win a World Cup in and England shirt, having played a key role in the Under-17 side that beat Spain in India last year.

"I'm buzzing for them, they're doing really well," Gibbs-White said. "Gareth Southgate's taken on the job and proven why he should be there.

"We've all been watching them at the hotel going mad. There's been a bit of rivalry between us and the Portuguese lads because they're out."

And a prediction for Wednesday's semi against Croatia? "Erm...England to win 2-1. In extra time."

Kortney Hause knows two of England's stars – Jordan Pickford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek – from the England Under-21s, as well as Southgate who managed Hause for some time.

"We've all been watching the World Cup, hopefully it can come home!" Hause said.

"I know a few of them as well so it's great to see my friends doing well. I know Pickers and Ruben from the Under-21s and obviously Gareth as well, I've talked to Ruben since he's been out there.

"Hopefully it'll be me one day! That's the plan."
