Two goals from Danny Batth and a third from Helder Costa - which Lambert described as 'world class' - put Wolves eight points clear of the drop zone in 16th.

Their fourth successive league win - a feat last achieved 14 months ago - was well deserved against the in-form Bluebirds.

And Lambert said: "The performance from start to finish was excellent.

"We're looking up the table. There are some really great things here.

"You expect one or two young kids to really make a mark and one or two more (signings) to come in. If we keep that togetherness then god knows where it'll take you.

"Everything's here for it. We're in a really good place at the minute.

"We said on Monday we'd come up against an aerial bombardment from free kicks, crosses, throw ins. If you defend that you'll be fine because we know going forward we're a threat.

"It was testament they played (Sol) Bamba in the centre of the pitch in front of the centre backs to stop Cavaleiro.

"I thought we were excellent right from the off and we beat an in-form side.

"There's a lot of work still to be done but we're on the right road."

Ben Marshall set up both of Batth's goals with expert crosses from the right.

Lambert hailed the £1.2m signing and praised winger Costa whose 12th goal of the season was truly special.

"Ben's delivery is brilliant, right side, left side, brilliant," the head coach added. "The one for the first was great and then the second goal was right on the money.

"His general game is very good too, I'm happy with how he's fitted in.

"Costa can make you look silly and that's what he did. He's a top player.

"The third goal was, in my opinion, world class."

Wolves are now five unbeaten and could all-but assure safety in their next two games. They face struggling Nottingham Forest (home) and Bristol City (away) on Tuesday and Saturday.

Lambert added: "This run started at Ipswich so 13 points out of 15 is really good going.

"I've said before, in my opinion we've been playing well without getting results. We just needed the goals to finish it off - the good moments were always there without finishing it off.

"The performance levels at the minute are really high.

"This is a great club. If we could get it going...we're exciting, I know that."
