Stale Solbakken shuffles his Wolves pack

Solbakken promised "nine or 10 changes" from the side that reeled off their third successive win in Saturday's 2-0 success at Peterborough – a result that put Wolves fifth in the table.

Wolves have just had three games in six days and tomorrow's third-round tie at Stamford Bridge kicks off another four in the next 12.

"Nine or 10 players who started Saturday's game will not start the match tomorrow," said Solbakken.

"Some players have played three games in six days and they need to train now so their bodies are ready for another three games in seven days.

"If they made it four games in nine days that would be stupid. It will be a completely new team.

"Players such as David Davis, Danny Batth, Georg Margreitter and Stephen Hunt will get a chance to start in this game and Dorus De Vries will start in goal.

"It wasn't a normal Championship week – normally if we'd have three games, they'd come in eight days, not six. We only had a two-day break between the last two matches with two long journeys as well."

Solbakken insisted the strength of the team will not be affected because those selected are fresh.

"There is no big difference between Bjorn Sigurdarson, Kevin Doyle and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake," he said.

"Bjorn will compete with them now he's fit. He's fresher than those two and should do an equal job.

"Dave Edwards played from the beginning against Ipswich and was our best central midfielder, David Davis has played in the Premier League and Georg Margreitter should compete against the other two centre-halves."

Solbakken, who revealed his dad Svein is an ardent Chelsea fan, said John Terry could have played for England in the next World Cup after the Chelsea captain's decision to stand down from playing for his country.

"He's showed leadership on the pitch for a generation of Chelsea players and was ready to maintain that up to the World Cup," he said.
