The Northern Irishman left The Hawthorns at the end of last season having established himself as an all-time great during a 13-year stay with the club.

In total the midfielder won three promotions during his time with the Baggies and played in more than 400 games.

But after being released by Albion at the end of the 2019/20 campaign he has now moved to Ashton Gate.

Bristol City manager Dean Holden – who previously played for and coached Walsall – said: "It’s brilliant to have secured Chris’ services because he is a player who is going to be very useful to us on and off the field.

“He’s technically very good, with an accurate pass.

"And he is a leader with a strong voice who will be a great teacher to the younger players.

"That is important to the development of this squad.

"I’m really looking forward to working with Chris in the season ahead.”
