Wing ace Phillips identified the midfield duo as among the funniest members of the Baggies squad while taking part in a question and answer session with the club.

At 39, Barry is by some distance the oldest member of The Hawthorns playing staff and Phillips said: “Gareth has to be up there (in terms of funniest player).

“Young Kyle Edwards. He brings a lot to the table. However, I’m going to go with the skipper Jake Livermore. Jake and GB (Barry) together are a great combination.”

Phillips also identified striker Hal Robson-Kanu as the most intelligent member of the Albion squad, during a 101 Questions feature on the club’s official website. He named Livermore and defender Ahmed Hegazi as the Baggies ‘hard men’.

The 29-year-old, meanwhile, explained how shoes and trainers are his guilty pleasure. Phillips believes he has more than 100 pairs at home.

He said: “I have so many. I’d say well over 100 pairs. My favourite would be one of my Jordan 3 pairs.

“When I was about 14 or 15 I went on Nike ID and created an all-white Tiempo pair of football boots. Those were my favourites. I used to love all-white boots.”
