Although his seven-year stint ended on a sour note, here are five memorable moments that, once the dust has settled, will live long in the memory.

Double-save vs Blackburn – April 2012

Ben Foster

Foster was crowned players’ player and supporters’ player of the year while on loan from Birmingham City in 2011/12, his first season at The Hawthorns, and it was thanks to pivotal moments like this.

With Albion winning 1-0, Foster pulled off an astonishing double save in the 55th minute, denying Yakubu at full-stretch before keeping out Bradley Orr while still on the ground.

It stopped the tide from turning and the Baggies went on win 3-0 to all-but guarantee their safety.

Penalty save at Anfield – February 2013

With the game deadlocked at 0-0 in the 77th minute, Liverpool were given a great chance to win after referee Jon Moss awarded a harsh penalty on Jonas Olsson.

But justice was done when Foster sprang down to his left-hand side and got a strong hand to Steven Gerrard’s firmly-struck low spot-kick.

Albion went on to win 2-0 thanks to late goals from Gareth McAuley and Romelu Lukaku to end an eight-game winless streak in stunning fashion.

The Baggies finished eighth that season, their highest ever in the Premier League.

FA Cup shoot-out hero – February 2016

Albion stumbled to a 1-1 draw at League One Peterborough in this fourth round replay, and so after 210 minutes of football, Foster was forced to bail the Baggies out. Twice.

First of all, he saved Martin Samuelsen’s penalty to put Albion in control, but then Darren Fletcher slid his wide to level things up. Foster then saved Lee Angol’s effort to put the Baggies through.

Imperious vs Spurs – October 2016

The majority of games between Albion and Spurs in recent years have finished 1-1, but this match at The Hawthorns would have been a cricket score were it not for Foster.

Albion had less than 30 per cent possession and Tottenham spent the whole afternoon peppering the Baggies goal, but Foster made seven saves in total.

It looked like Nacer Chadli had won the game against his former club with a 82nd-minute goal, but Dele Alli finally breached the Albion goal in the 89th minute.

Clean sheet at Old Trafford – April 2018

Foster made two brilliant stops at his old stomping ground to deny former team-mate Romelu Lukaku in the first of three memorable victories under Darren Moore towards the end of last season.

The keeper was in stunning form, and this was followed up by a ridiculous save to stop Dwight Gayle in a 1-0 win at Newcastle.
