The 23-year-old winger is often at the heart of Walsall’s attacking threat and has become a fans’ favourite since joining at the beginning of last season.

After an indifferent start to this campaign, McDonald has found some form in recent months and he insists he is happy with the Saddlers.

“At the moment I’m just focusing on football and winning games at Walsall,” McDonald said.

“I really like being at the club. I feel really welcomed here.

“I really like it and I’m enjoying my football at Walsall.”

When asked if he would like to stay at the club, McDonald added: “I enjoy playing for Walsall, I feel confident and comfortable here.

“I’m really enjoying football.”

As with the majority of the Walsall squad McDonald is out of contract in the summer after signing an 18-month deal in January 2020, which was an extension of the six-month deal he signed in the summer of 2019.

Walsall have already tied down Liam Kinsella and Alfie Bates to new deals and are keen to more names to that list.

Manager Darrell Clarke has previously said that the club are negotiating with several players over new deals and it has been ongoing for some time.

However, when asked if he has been in talks for a new contract, McDonald said: “No, I haven’t.”

Meanwhile, McDonald has praised the Saddlers fans for their support from home.

“The fans have been brilliant,” he said.

“It’s a big miss not having them at the stadium and at away games but we definitely feel the support from them.

“I know they watch on the passes so we want to continue getting three points for them. We’re very grateful.

“For me personally I love playing in front of the fans. Everybody feels the same way.

“Now it’s got to a point where we know they’re watching anyway and we have to go out there and perform.”
