The Saddlers have netted just 14 goals in 13 games in all competitions this season, but have created an abundance of chances on several occasions.

Elijah Adebayo and Caolan Lavery have scored four and three respectively, while Josh Gordon netted twice before his unfortunate knee injury.

When asked if the answer to Walsall’s consistent draws is a mentality or quality issue, Clarke said: “Not necessarily in their heads, we just have to get better don’t we.

“We have to focus on not giving teams head starts and being able to get that first goal.

“That’s the key. Penalties given away, pass back for an empty net, a shanked clearance. It’s those fine lines in football matches.

“I don’t think it’s a quality thing because we’re creating chances aren’t we. We’re getting territory, creating chances, moving the ball.

“Yes we can always do better and take more of those chances. I think there’s more to come from my forward players and I know they will. I keep believing in them. I have good forward options. We keep working away.”
