Confident Darrell Clarke is focusing on Walsall

Darrell Clarke will be hoping to build on the back of two wins when they visit in-form Crawley.

Saddlers travel to face the Red Devils tomorrow after picking up consecutive wins over strugglers Morecambe and Scunthorpe.

Gabriele Cioffi’s side have had a steady start to their League Two campaign, proving hard to beat with only two losses in 10 games.

Their four wins and four draws leave them eighth in the league and they come into the Saddlers clash on the back of a 2-2 draw away at Northampton, with a stoppage-time goal completing a second-half comeback – and after picking up a Championship scalp when they won on penalties against Stoke in the Carabao Cup third round in midweek.

But it’s Clarke’s side who arguably have the greater momentum heading into tomorrow’s game and the boss says his side are full of confidence.

“It’s a pleasing week for us, we’ll certainly not get carried away,” he said. “It’s going to take a bit to get us where we need to be, but a positive week and that’s good.

“We go there full of confidence, back-to-back wins which is nice, which is important, I’m going to try to keep that little run going.

“We work that every game is different, different game, different project and then we come in, we analyse that, the good, the bad and we move on.

“Naturally, winning football matches breeds confidence, but players should be confident anyway, that’s the job. Cross the white line, don’t be fearing failure, making sure you’re positive in your play.”

One player who will be looking to get back into the starting XI will be Liam Kinsella.

The midfielder, normally used in the centre, started the games against Bradford and Morecambe on the left wing after Clarke changed formation to a 4-4-2.

After two tenacious performances the 23-year-old was replaced by out-and-out winger Wes McDonald for the Scunthorpe clash.

“It was a good win for them (Crawley) in the week,” Kinsella said.

“They’re going to have their tails up but we’ve won two on the bounce so we’re going to go there believing we can win. They’ve had a decent start, I think they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season but if we win on Saturday we’ll just be one point behind them.

“If you get a few wins you’re looking up again so all we can do is take each game as it comes, you can’t look too far ahead.”

And Clarke admitted that the focus is on Crawley as his side takes each game as they come.

“I’ve managed over 400 games, I’ve never really changed, we’re complimentary of what Crawley’s strengths are and also focus massively on their weaknesses as well,” he added.

“You have to get the balance right, games are won on fine lines and if you can do that and zap their strengths and hurt them in their weaknesses you have every chance of winning a football match.

“It certainly helps if the footballing gods are on your side as well but we’ll try to tactically get it right.”
