Games ‘taking their toll’ on Stourbridge

Stourbridge manager Ian Long will have to overcome an injury-laden squad when his side travel to face AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

The Glassboys currently sit 13th in the Southern Central Premier and will be looking to close the gap on the top six against the Diamonds.

But injuries and suspensions mean Long will be without seven players for the game.

“We have a few injuries and a couple suspensions so it’ll be the case of a few square pegs in round holes,” he said. “It’s very difficult, but we’re not helping ourselves with three replays in FA competitions. The games are taking their toll.

“The league is our priority, we want to get promoted and we have to make use of our games in hand and get the points.

“We’re playing well, in good form and looking good going forward – just vulnerable defensively at times.

“Rushden are a young energetic side and we’ll have to match that.”

Meanwhile, league rivals Hednesford Town travel to play Biggleswade Town, and Rushall Olympic welcome Banbury United.

And Pics boss Liam McDonald is expecting an entertaining game.

“We’ve had them watched and we know that they’re a good side who are up there for a reason,” he said. “Like us, they play some attractive football so it has all the ingredients to be another entertaining game. We need to go out there and make sure that we give a good account. Both teams are flying the flag for the smaller clubs within that leading pack and there is plenty to play for on Saturday.”

Kidderminster Harriers will play sixth-placed Southport in their first National League North fixture since manager John Pemberton resigned.

In Southern Central One, Halesowen Town are away at bottom of the table Wantage Town, while in Northern One South East, Chasetown travel to Sheffield.

Stafford Rangers have a free weekend in the Northern Premier.
