Aston Villa v Derby: Five key battles at Wembley

Villa take on Derby County in the Championship play-off final, with the winner claiming the final spot in the Premier League next season - here are five key battles on the pitch which could decide the outcome.

Tammy Abraham v Fikayo Tomori

Two Chelsea loanees set to do battle at Wembley, Abraham is the man tasked with scoring the goals for Villa, with Tomori planning on doing the opposite for the Rams.

Chelsea fans will be intrigued to see how the pair get on, although Villa and Derby fans certainly won't hide which one they're rooting for.

Villa's loanee has had a sterling season, scoring 26 times en-route to the final, whilst Tomori has also impressed defensively at Pride Park.

With the likes of Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Conor Hourihane all doing their utmost to provide chances for the Villa forward, Derby's back line will need to have their wits about them to keep Dean Smith's side out at Wembley.

Regardless of how things finish up on Monday, Chelsea fans can watch on knowing that some of their younger talents are doing pretty well in the second tier.

Jack Grealish v Bradley Johnson

The man who's spearheaded Villa's climb up the Championship table and eventually to the play-off final. Jack Grealish's impact on the game could be massive, especially if Bradley Johnson doesn't have his best 90 minutes.

The 32-year-old is experienced, but having come back into the fray against the Rams in March, Grealish ran rings around the Derby midfield in Villa's 4-0 win at B6.

West Brom certainly did a number on the young star in the semi-finals, ensuring Stefan Johansen was never much more than an arm's length from him over the two legs - you'd imagine Frank Lampard may want Johnson to do the same.

Grealish has been in this situation before of course, so you imagine he'll do his utmost to get Villa over the final hurdle this time.

Should he be on his game, Derby may face an uphill battle trying to swing the game in their favour.

Dean Smith v Frank Lampard

The battle in the dug-out was certainly one-sided over the two meetings during the regular season.

Dean Smith had Frank Lampard's number at Pride Park and Villa Park, claiming 3-0 and 4-0 wins respectively in what looks like an ominous sign for the Rams at Wembley.

However, the former Chelsea midfielder got the better of Marcelo Bielsa in the semi-finals, with their second leg performance in particular hailed as tactical brilliance from the Derby boss.

Lampard has certainly grown in his role since taking on the job in the East Midlands, but Smith will also back himself having masterminded Villa's historic run of victories over the back end of the season.

The battles on the pitch will be vital, but the strategy in the dug-outs will no doubt have a huge part to play too.

Tyrone Mings v Jack Marriott

On-loan centre back Tyrone Mings has been a near perfect signing by Smith, having linked up with the Villans at the end of January.

Quickly becoming one of the first names on the team sheet, Mings' composure and quality on the ball has been clear for all to see, and has been key in the club's surge up the table.

He's likely to come up against none other than Jack Marriott at Wembley following his heroic's against Leeds in the play-off semi-finals.

The former Peterborough striker knows where the net is, and is capable of stealing the show - although Mings may fancy himself having marshalled a much improved defence in recent weeks.

The Bournemouth loanee did have an uncomfortable semi-final first leg against Dwight Gayle, but those occasions seem few and far between.

Alongside Axel Tuanzebe, Marriott might require some assistance to get by Villa's defence.

Mason Mount v Glenn Whelan

Undoubtedly one of the brightest talents on offer in Derby's ranks, Mason Mount is the man who makes Lampard's side tick.

Glenn Whelan could be the man tasked to handle the attacking midfielder, although there's a chance Smith opts for Conor Hourihane to do the job instead.

Either way, both men would face a tough task in slowing down a player who's been instrumental for the Rams since joining on-loan.

With 11 goals to his name this season already, Villa's midfield will need to be at the top of their game to keep him quiet.

Whelan has come in for plenty of praise over recent months, offering a defensive anchor and some added control for Smith's side - although should Villa want to be a bit more dynamic, Hourihane could be the man the boss opts for.

Regardless, stopping Mount having a big impact will be vital.
