James Chester: Home run can be Aston Villa spark

Skipper James Chester has called on Villa to make the most of home comforts in the battle to get their season back on track.

Tonight’s visit of Rotherham is the first of two games at Villa Park in the space of five days.

The hosts go into it looking to snap a five-game winless run which has ramped up the pressure on boss Steve Bruce, who heard fans call for his head during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Blackburn.

Conor Hourihane’s late leveller salvaged a point for at Ewood Park and Chester hopes Villa, who have lost only five league games on their own turf in the last two seasons, can now kick-on.

“To go away from home and not lose the game is big,” he said. “Now we have two home games on the back of that.

“We have a decent record at Villa Park since the gaffer has been in charge so hopefully we can take advantage of that.”

Chester is again likely to be partnered in central defence by Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe.

“He has all the attributes to become an excellent player,” said the skipper.
