Paul Lambert keeping his feet on the ground at Aston Villa
Paul Lambert today insisted he will keep his feet on the ground despite the fact Villa are within touching distance of a Wembley final.
The claret and blues booked their place in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup with a thrilling 4-1 victory over the Villa manager's former club Norwich last night.
But the Scot did not want to get carried away with the possibility of a trip to the national stadium in his first season following a memorable win at Carrow Road.
"It's not something I've thought about. We've still got another couple of games to go. It gives you something to look forward to and the fans something to look forward to – they deserve a pick-up as well," said Lambert.
"I've never been to Wembley as a player or a manager. I've been to watch a game but I've never been part of it. But I would be more interested in the players getting there.
"That's what I look forward to. I don't play the game any more. They are the ones who do that. And they are the ones who deserve the credit coming their way.
"We have got footballers in the side and everything just clicked for us. Whoever we get in the draw now I think Villa Park will be absolutely jam-packed."
Lambert, who is in involved in a legal dispute with Norwich which will be decided at a tribunal next month, refused to revel in the victory over his former employers though.
"I loved my time there. I've got nothing but praise for the football club. There are some great fans there and it's Chris Hughton's team now and they have got into a good position. Villa is my team now."
