Lye Town are hunting for experience

Lye Town have placed experience at the top of their criteria as they begin the search for a manager.

The Midland League Premier Division outfit are looking for a new boss after Dean Whitehouse left the club earlier this week.

Whitehouse and the club parted company following Lye’s 3-2 home loss to Boldmere St Michaels, which left the side sitting 15th in the table with just two victories from 11 games.

Lye are without a game tomorrow due to scheduled opponents Worcester City playing in the FA Vase.

Chairman Brian Blakemore will head the search for Whitehouse’s replacement and is looking for someone with a knowledge of the league to help the club find some form.

“The results have been very patchy and after the game on Saturday we sat together for a chat and between us decided the best thing to do was to part ways,” said Blakemore.

“It’s not been the season we wanted. We’ve been unlucky at times, but when the results aren’t going your way sometimes the luck doesn’t either. We’re very disappointed.

“As a chairman you would rather have stability, it’s always painful to let someone go, but sometimes it’s needed.

“We want someone with knowledge of the league and local players with a good philosophy in the way they way.

“There’s been around 14 applicants. We need to sift through them and it depends on who has applied, but we want someone with experience.”

On Tuesday night, under the guidance of first team coach Jason Rhodes, Lye defeated Paget Rangers 5-1 in the League Cup.

And on Monday they face Stourbridge in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

“It’s good to get a win under our belts, it was against lower league opposition but we still had to perform and it will give us some confidence back,” added Blakemore.

“Playing Stourbridge on Monday, no one expects us to win with or without a manager. We have no idea what kind of team they’ll put out, or whether we’ll have a manager in place by then, but it’s good for us to test ourselves and have a go.”

Elsewhere in the league, AFC Wulfrunians travel to Coventry United and Tividale are away at Romulus, while in the FA Vase, Walsall Wood are away to Leicester Road.
