The 30-year-old was the notable absentee from the list submitted by Villa to the Premier League on Tuesday afternoon.

Lansbury has started just 35 matches since joining in a £3million move from Nottingham Forest in January 2017 and was among several players Villa were attempting to move out during the recent transfer window.

With his squad heavy on numbers, boss Dean Smith opted to include right-back Frederic Guilbert and fourth-choice goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic on his 25-man list, with Lansbury the man to miss out.

Injured due Tom Heaton and Wesley have also been included, though the latter is not expected to return until the end of the year.

Villa sit second in the table after winning their opening four matches and can go top for the first time since 2001 if they take a point at home to Leeds on Friday.

The visitors have been dealt a blow ahead of the trip after midfielder Kalvin Phillips was ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.
