The 25-year-old, who grew up playing at Patshull Park Golf Club, got through the final day without dropping a shot to ensure he climbed up the leaderboard to claim around £15,500 in prize money.

Over the four days, Rai shot rounds of 71, 68, 70 and 68 to finish 11 under par – with that score good enough to finish joint 10th with four other players.

Staffordshire’s Robert Rock also competed at the event and finished joint 15th – netting him £10,820 in prize money.

Rock, from Armitage near Rugeley, was looking ready to challenge after four birdies from his first 10 holes on the final day.

But dropped shots at 13, 15 and a triple bogey at 16 saw him fall away.

The competition was won by Manchester’s Sam Horsfield, who secured his first European Tour win.
