Golfer Aaron Rai collects £16k prize after 54th place finish

Wolverhampton golfer Aaron Rai collected a cheque for around £16,500 after his joint 54th-place finish in at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

The 23-year-old former Wolverhampton Grammar School pupil, who grew up in Perton, had been in contention after the first round.

However, he slipped back on the third day of the tournament with a four over par 76 before carding a final round of 71 to end the tournament on three under, 15 shots back of winner Shane Lowry.

Staffordshire’s Robert Rock, who famously won the tournament ahead of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy a decade ago, failed to make the cut this year.
