Wolves today celebrated the signing of hot prospect Jake Cassidy - after beating off competition from three fellow Premier League clubs.

Neighbours Albion, Everton and Tottenham were all on the trail of the 17-year-old Welsh striker, but Wolves completed a deal for an undisclosed fee after the player's eye-catching trial and reserves appearance last week.

Cassidy joins from Airbus Broughton on a two-year-contract with a further year's option in the club's favour after, featuring in the academy's friendly against Coventry before scoring a goal in the development squad's 4-2 win at Telford on Tuesday which had Wolves officials drooling.

Now the teenager will go into the development squad set-up permanently to work under coach Steve Weaver.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We are always interested in signing good young players and Jake certainly fits into that category.

"It's credit to Steve Weaver who has good contacts in the area, became aware of Jake's progress and brought him in on trial.

"There were plenty of other Premier League clubs interested and when he scored at Telford the interest cranked up even further.

"But Jake immediately felt comfortable here at Wolves and we are delighted he has agreed to join us."

Cassidy today admitted it's been a whirlwind 10 days.

He said: "I had a good pre-season and then the interest started. I came down here for a week's trial and now here I am!

"I wanted to progress, I was pleased to go to Airbus and was looking forward to a season in the Welsh Premier League.

"I certainly didn't think anything would happen before the season had even started and it's all happened very quickly.

"I was with my Mum and Dad when I got the phone call that Wolves wanted to take me on trial and I had to leave the next morning.

"It's obviously a great feeling but I'm not a person who will get carried away and I will keep my feet on the floor."

Having featured in those two Wolves fixtures for the academy and development sides, Cassidy has already enjoyed life in a Wolves shirt.

He said: "I played for the academy against Coventry and didn't get too much of the ball. That game was more about trying to settle in having just travelled down.

"I enjoyed the game against Telford and scoring a goal, it was just a shame I got blisters and had to come off."
