Louis Johnson, aged 14, from Tettenhall Wood, who is asthmatic and suffers from Pectus Excavatum, has so far raised more than £13,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

He has also managed to raise more than £35,000 for a number of different charities in his young life.

Louis, a pupil at Smestow School, learned last year he had been nominated for the award but only knew he was the winner a month ago.

However, the official presentation had to be made during a Zoom ceremony last Thursday because of Covid restrictions. Louis also had to wait for a photograph and the glass trophy to be delivered to his home.

He said: “I am delighted to receive the award and just wanted to make a difference and keep on fundraising.”

Louis has also been nominated as a Positive Role Model in the National Diversity Awards and hopes to complete yet another charity walk next month.

Amazing

He had been due to walk from Tettenhall to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital on April 11 but was forced to cancel it due to coronavirus.

However, Louis is now planning to do the walk of more than 16 miles on May 29.

He completed a similar fundraising walk two years ago in about six hours.

His mother, Teresa, said: “He’s done raffles, tombolas and lots of walks, he just wants to do it to help all of the children at the hospital.

“It’s amazing that he has raised more than £13,000 for the hospital and in June he will have been doing fundraising for ten years.

“Now he has been nominated as a Positive Role Model in his age group in the National Diversity Awards and if people vote for him and he gets shortlisted he could go forward for an award next year.”
