Two women cut free after crash in Walsall

Two elderly women had to be cut free from their cars and taken to hospital following a collision.

The crash, between a grey Renault and grey Citroen, took place on Mill Road, Shelfield in Walsall shortly after 2pm today.

Both vehicles were severely damaged, the Renault had its front wheel ripped away from the chassis while the driver-side corner of the Citroen was also badly crumpled.

Two fire crews attended and had to remove the doors from both vehicles to free both patients, whose injuries were not thought to be serious.

Two ambulances attended and the women were taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.

Police also attended and the road was closed off for more than two hours while the patients were tended to and the scene was cleared.

Debris from the two cars had showered the middle of the road.
