Christopher Nolan, from Coalville in Leicestershire, was stopped after being spotted driving suspiciously in a Ford Fiesta in Lichfield Road.

He sped off towards the Island Roundabout before he collided with a Volvo XC60 on Doxey Road, drove through fencing and hit a kerb on December 6 at around 8pm.

The 25-year-old left the car and tried to run away but was found near the Lidl store off Foregate Street where he was found to be carrying cannabis and arrested.

Nolan was found to be disqualified from driving and not having any insurance - and was later charged with driving a motor vehicle without insurance, driving while disqualified, failing to stop a motor vehicle when requested by an officer and being in possession of a controlled Class B drug (cannabis).

He pleaded guilty to the charges at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on December 8 and has been remanded in custody for sentencing at crown court at a later date.
