Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL), which manages the swimming pool on behalf of Cannock Chase Council, identified problems with the tiling.

The pool was drained during lockdown to determine the extent of the issue and carry out assessments.

Tests have been conducted on the pool, pipelines and water tanks over the last few weeks to pinpoint the potential water leak and reasons behind failed tiling.

A spokesman for Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles said: “We understand how important the pool at Rugeley Leisure Centre is to the community and are working to have the pool operational in early 2021.

“As work goes on we will continue to keep members updated as best we can and would like to remind users of Rugeley Pool that they can use Chase Leisure Centre as part of their membership.”

Councillor Christine Mitchell, portfolio leader for culture and sport at Cannock Chase Council, added: “The team at Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles are working hard with contractors to determine the damage to, and carry out repairs on the pool at Rugeley Leisure Centre to have it operational as soon as possible and we hope to see the pool open again in early 2021."
