Police at the scene

People living nearby reported that a boy had been knocked down near the Holy Trinity Church.

Trinity Street resident Sukvinder Kaur, 59, said: "I went to collect two of my friends' children from school and everyone was coming up the road on the pavement, including the little boy and his family.

"The little boy and his family were walking in front of us.

"The next thing we knew a car came around the corner from Burlington Road direction and there was a collision with the little boy.

"A lot of people were crying and the children were crying. It was very upsetting for everybody.

"When the police came I went home."

Bryn Jones, 75, said: "Just after 3.30pm I heard a shout outside in the street. I went outside to have a quick look and one of the parents came and said a child had been knocked over.

"The police came virtually as I came outside and they were moving people on from the scene, then about three ambulances arrived and the fire engine, all with flashing blue lights."
