The update comes after a blaze, described as "hellish", destroyed the scrap yard of Enablelink, a scrap resale business in Tipton, yesterday morning.

Now, West Midlands Fire Service said crews have "made good progress" at the site on George Henry Road, dousing the remnants of the fire and dampening down hotspots.

On Thursday evening the fire service said it had reduced its presence to three fire engines and crews, and that firefighters are expected to remain on the scene "until at least late this evening".

The major blaze affected over 50 per cent of the site's 1,000 tonnes of scrap metal, with the smoke plume being visible from over five miles away.
