Linda Fownes, from Sedgley, joined her friends Hayley Mason and Emma Edwards for a fundraising walk in their wedding dresses on Sunday around the Gornal and Sedgley area.

They have raised more than £800 so far for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Linda, aged 35, said it was "great fun".

"We took our time a bit. We took a fishing net out for people to drop coins into if they wanted, and then we put it into a collection bucket – and we raised £100 from that.

"We had the weather on our side too – we even got a bit sunburnt.

"I was lucky as I wore flat shoes on my wedding day so my dress was a bit shorter but Hayley and Emma wore heels and had to carry their dress around a lot!"

She added: "We all live very close to each other – even though Hayley and Emma technically give in Gornal – so we walked around the area saying hello to family and friends. Lots of cars were tooting too.

"The idea of the wedding dress walk came from Hayley – she felt a bit down because of lockdown so thought it would be fun if we all went out in our wedding dresses."

Linda, a data analyst and mother-of-two has already raised £5,400 for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity by selling a range of handmade knitted items. She succeeded her goal of £5,000 – which helped fund two vitally-important air ambulance missions – after her mother's partner was killed several years ago in an incident which the Air Ambulance attended.

"It was such a terrible time, so I really wanted to do something to help," Linda said. "I wanted to pay it forward. It wasn't enough to raise money for the one ambulance used, we wanted to be able to fund the next mission as well."
