Keiran Casey and Adam Aston, ward councillors for Upper Gornal and Woodsetton, have been pushing Dudley Council to look at the garages in Perkins Close, in Woodsetton.

They say the garages are in a bad state and residents had contacted them after a number of incidents of fly-tipping and break-ins.

The work that has now been secured will see all of the garages knocked down, as many are not in use, and the area will be tidied up.

Councillor Casey said: "It is great that we have now managed to secure this commitment from the council to get these garages knocked down as they really are in a bad state.

"Myself and my colleague Adam have discussed these issues a number of times with local residents, particularly when there have been incidents of fly-tipping at the site and just the general condition of these which was causing a number of issues to residents that live nearest the site.

"I'm really glad that we have been able to work with residents to secure this commitment and hopefully this will resolve a lot of the problems residents have been having.

"I think this just goes to show what we can achieve when we all work together to make our area an even better place to live for all."

Councillor Aston added: "Myself and Keiran have been pushing the council to secure these garages to try and prevent any further problems and it's great news that we now finally have a long term solution to the problems.

"Residents have also raised a number of problems with parking in the street given that Perkins Close is very narrow and at times people are having real problems with parking, so hopefully once these garages are down and the area tidied up it will also help with the parking problems too.

"Rest assured, we will both continue to work with local residents to push for further investment into our area and the improvements we all want to see."
