The cross-breed was taken to the RSPCA's Newbrook Farm Centre and Hospital on Thursday by a member of the public.

Now the charity has urged anyone with information to come forward with the aim of finding the person who abandoned her.

The dog, named Roo by staff, was not micro-chipped, is around four or five years old and was said to have been left in a "real state".

Inspector Vicki Taylor, who is now investigating, said: “This poor little dog was brought in by a member of the public after being thrown from a car in Warren Lane near Lickey Hills car park.

“She was emaciated and extremely matted. She was in a real state. She’s now safe and has had her neglected coat groomed and all of the mats have been removed.

"Now you can now see how skinny she really is under all of that fur."

The eyewitness saw the animal being thrown from the passenger door of a car – but didn't get the registration.

The dog was wearing a collar and lead when she was abandoned – but the collar was for a large dog and was much too big for her.

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
